Family Volunteer Day 2013
Family Volunteer Day is a day of service that is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving every year. This year, with a grant from Hands On network, the Volunteer Center partnered with families in an apartment complex in Ames. Participants made two sets of hats and scarves: one to keep for themselves and one to donate.
We had about 15 families participate. We got a box full of scarves and hats to donate to Beloit. It was a great opportunity for the families in the complex to come together and spend time with each other. One resident pointed out that doing things like this makes their community stronger. Many residents said that they would be interested in volunteering again. The Volunteer Center plans to continue working with these apartments to inspire more volunteers.
The Volunteer Center is always looking for more ways to engage volunteers. If you have any suggestions let us know!
Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
