Winter Weatherization Challenge 2013

As much as we don’t want to think about it, winter is coming. Forecasters are predicting a bitterly cold winter. That means utility bills will be high as we try to keep our homes warm and cozy. For many low-income members of our community, keeping warm and paying the bills maybe difficult.

On November 2nd, the Story County Coalition for Energy Efficiency (SCCEE) is sponsoring the Winter Weatherization Challenge which mobilizes volunteers to weatherize the homes of elderly, disabled, and low-income individuals throughout Story County.  Volunteers will install plastic on windows, door sweeps, weather-stripping around doors and windows, and more. The goal of this initiative is to help keep heating costs low and make homes more energy-efficient this winter.

More than 100 volunteers are needed to make this day a success. Community groups are encouraged to form a team of four to six members. This is a great opportunity for businesses, organizations, service clubs, faith groups, student groups, and friends and family. To register your team go to  or call 515-268-5323.

SCCEE is a collaboration of representatives from Central Iowa RSVP, Mid-Iowa Community Action, Inc. (MICA) and the Volunteer Center of Story County.

Last year over 100 volunteers helped weatherize homes throughout Story County.
